Now, a police museum
The arrest warrant issued by the British to Bhagat Singh; a map of Delhi as it appeared in 1910; the wireless sets used in World War II... all this and more will soon find a place at the museum to be set up at the Delhi Police Headquarters. Marking a first countrywide, this museum aims to preserve the history of Delhi’s men in khaki.
Says special Commissioner (administration) KK Paul, "We have a master-plan ready and a hall on the first floor at Police Headquarters, now being used by the licensing department, will be converted into a museum."
Apart from memorabilia dating back in time, the Delhi Police plans to display arms and ammunition, important letters, besides old uniforms and files of historical importance, at the museum.

Pride of place, however, is accorded to a double-barrel gun which was presented to the Delhi Police by Jawaharlal Nehru in 1961.
"We have held a couple of meetings with police officers responsible for the execution of this museum project and were pleasantly surprised that the Delhi Police has in its possession documents dating back to 1904. Besides, there are interesting antiques which the public will soon be able to see," says a National Museum official.
According to additional commissioner (administration) Mansoor Ali Syed, "The idea is to give the public an insight into the rich history of the police department." In simple-speak, the Delhi Police’s history will no longer be a mystery for the public!
